Our Partnership with Community Heritage Corp.
First a bit of history of the Sacandaga Apartments.
The Sacandaga Task Force for Senior Living was formed with two goals in mind, one, to provide services to area seniors, and two to develop affordable senior housing in our region.
The Sacandaga Task Force for Senior Living was formed with two goals in mind, one, to provide services to area seniors, and two to develop affordable senior housing in our region.
Beginning in 2007 we started holding various fund-raising efforts to set money aside in a housing fund. We also began a search for property that would be suitable for senior housing. We took surveys to ascertain the interest in the local community for senior housing. Early on we decided we were not equipped to build and manage housing ourselves so we also began a search for a developer that we could work with. Fulton County Community Heritage Corporation (FCCHC), a local developer of senior housing was immediately on our list. However, they were in the middle of several other large projects at the time, so we continued to look. They did, however, give us much help and guidance in our work. We had contact with a few other developers, but it quickly became apparent that to make it financially feasible for them, they all needed to build a larger project than was suitable for our community. During this time, we were able to secure financing and purchase a suitable piece of property on South first St. in the Village of Northville.
Fast forward to 2017 and FCCHC, who had continued to have an interest in our project was now available and came on board to work with us. FCCHC applied for and was awarded a grant/deferred loan totaling $1,284,320 from the NYS Local HOME program for construction of an 8-unit apartment complex. In the fall of 2019 construction began on Sacandaga Apartments.
100% occupancy was achieved by October 1, 2021.
The apartments are owned and managed by Community Heritage Corp. and we work with them providing local assistance in any way we can.
